Dazzling Greens Do The Double
9th June 2019
Our Under 11s football team lifted the Southlands Cup this weekend, a cup which will keep the league trophy company in the New School trophy cabinet this summer.
With the league title secured less than a month ago, the greedy Greens got started this Saturday with a scoreline which is too embarrassing to report; let's just say that 13 is not always an unlucky number, and that it is always nice to keep a clean sheet.
Some intricate moves in the next match, saw The New School rattling the bar, but it was a penalty which secured the points. 1-0.
The next game resulted in a 'cricket score' for our league champions, but we were well aware that there would be another tough match at some point, if we wanted to get our hands on the cup. And it came at the semi-final stage.
A stalwart Southlands side made life difficult, but some well worked passing moves finally paid off and, once again one goal was all it took, this time to take us through to the cup final!
For a period of time, the final remained goaless, but not long after this, the flood gates burst open. An emphatic win in the final resulted in some startling statistics:
The New School had refused to concede a single goal in this cup competition!
Each and every squad member (including the goalkeeper) had appeared on the scoresheet!
The New School had done the Double; both league and cup competitions were 'in the bag!'
