The school day runs from 08.30 until 15.30. After school activities run from 15.40 to 16.40 with younger students being picked up from the classrooms by the teacher providing the activity. Students aged 11 and above make their own way to the activity. The school year runs from the beginning of September until the end of June with half term breaks at the end of October and middle of February, Christmas and Easter holidays tend to be 2 weeks in duration.

Yes. On receipt of an offer of a place you will be given details of the school bus service with instructions on how to apply. Most areas of Rome are covered.

The range of activities varies from year to year and from term to term but in general:

Football; Volleyball; Basketball; Drama; Art; Little Explorers; Italian booster; Modern Dance; Computer Coding; Music lessons; International Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The school provides school lunches. Different diets and allergies are catered for. The cost of the school lunches is included in the fees section.

Around 40% of the students are from Italian families in the Rome area.  31% are either British or American or have one parent who speaks English as a mother tongue language. More than 35 different nationalities are represented.

The school prides itself on small classes. In Year 1 - Year 11 classes never exceed 17. In Years 12 and 13 the classes range between 3 and 15 students depending on the subject. 

Due to the New School’s special status granted by the Italian government students can transfer into the Italian education system without the need to do any of the state exams. At 18 students can sit the lingustico e culturale part of the maturità.

A GCSE is a two-year (Years 10 & 11) programme. Students take around 10 subjects, leading to formal UK based internationally recognised qualifications at the end of Year 11. The IGCSE is an excellent preparation for A-Level which is studied in Years 12 & 13. Students choose 3 or 4 A levels and many also choose to do the Extended project Qualification. A-Levels are recognised internationally.

The school has a gorgeous garden, a multi purpose sports pitch, a performing arts room, a Library, 3 modern science laboratories, a volleyball pitch, a computer room and a Drama room as well as numerous airy and light classrooms.

Most of our teachers are British. The exceptions are those who teach Italian, French and Spanish who are, of course, mother tongue. All teachers have to have a degree and a PGCE or equivalent from a UK university or European equivalent. The turn over of teachers is extremely low with the average length of service being 10 years. They speak English although some are able to speak Italian.

With high numbers of diplomatic families around 10-15% of students leave each year.

In our primary school we have scaled back homework as much as possible to focus on maths, English (reading and spelling) with the occasional project work. The senior school students follow a ‘homework timetable’ designed to ensure the students are not overloaded each night and commensurate, in amount, with age.

UK schools follow the academic year and not the calendar year. This means that students must be 3 on August 31st to enter Early Years 1, 4 to enter Early Years 2, 5 to enter Year 1 and so on. Exceptions to this rule rarely occur. Formal schooling in the Uk begins at the age of 5. Year 1 is therefore equivalent to ‘terza materna’. Year 13 is the final year of UK schools. Students are 18 when they finish school.
