Please select: ...and that was ‘Don’t Break my Atom’ by The Chemical Brothers. Now it’s coming up to 10 o’clock, but stay tuned to Science Radio 104.1 FM as we have some very special guests coming in. At 10:05, Arjan will be chatting to Mr I Red in The Show of Tomorrow. A little later on, we have a real treat for you; The Big Bang! It’s hosted by Nicholas and James, and I know you’ll be excited to hear that UV Ray has agreed to be their first guest. UV will also be popping in for a natter with Alif and Novella afterwards. At 11 o’clock, Lehua and Elettra will be in the studio speaking to Gamma and don’t miss X Ray - he’ll be talking to Novella and Marlene about all his latest exploits at quarter past! But now, sit back, relax, and enjoy ‘Hair-Raising’ by Van der Graaf Generator... Interviewer: Hello and welcome to the Show of Tomorrow! Today I’m having an interview with an infrared ray. IR Ray: Hello, you can call me IR. Interviewer: Ok, I'll start asking some questions. Is it true that they call you Heat Radiation, if so, why? IR Ray: Yes they do call me that, because I'm given out by all hot objects, you can feel me on your skin as radiant heat. I am readily absorbed by all materials and cause heating. Interviewer: WOW! This is so cool. What uses your rays? IR Ray: Radiant heaters (those that glow red), like toasters and grills. Interviewer: I heard that over-exposure to your rays causes damage to cells. IR Ray: Yes this is true, I can cause sunburn but it's the UV rays that cause skin cancer. Interviewer: You are very important for the police. IR Ray: Yes, I’m used in night-vision equipment; this works by detecting the heat radiation given off by all objects even in the dark of night. Interviewer: Well, we know you’re very much in demand. Thank you for your time! by Arjan Interviewer: Hello, and welcome to today’s show, The Big Bang!!! Here with me I have UV-Ray. So Mr. UV-Ray, do you mind if we ask you a couple of questions? Is it true that UV-rays can harm human beings? UV-Ray: What sort of question is that? Of course I can harm you, duh!!! Interviewer: Interesting. How can I protect myself from your horrible rays? UV-Ray: My rays are not horrible, all you need is some sun-block and some shades. I’m very popular with the ladies because I give them a tan. Interviewer: What is your wavelength is it long or short? UV-Ray: My wavelength is about 10-8 metres. Interviewer: And where do you come from? UV-Ray: This is a very simple but interesting question. I come from the sun. Interviewer: So that means that if we don’t take enough precautions we could go blind or develop skin problems? UV-Ray: Exactly. If you look at the sun you can’t see me, but you would go blind in the future. Interviewer: So how can we detect you? UV-Ray: There are two ways you can detect me a simple way and a complex way. The simple way is to think that whenever you look at the sun you are looking at me. The more scientific way to detect me is to use some fluorescent paints and special inks that make me a visible light; I can make them glow! Interviewer: All this is very interesting, but I think that the sun is calling you and we have come to an end. Thank you Mr. UV-Ray! by Nicholas B and James
Radio Interviewer (RI): Good morning and welcome to 101.4 Science Radio. And in today’s show we will be interviewing Ultra-Violet Ray. But only after these short messages because Ray isn’t here yet … Oh, maybe he is here, I can hear his voice. Ultra-Violet ray (UV): I’m sorry but you have to open the shutters, I can’t enter the room, after all I do come from the Sun! RI: Ah, yes sorry… let’s start the interview. Is it true that you come from the Sun? UV: Yes, that’s my home star, every UV particle comes from the Sun. RI: I heard you had some problems with an enemy? If it’s true, who is it? UV: Yes, I do have some problems with certain sun-creams. RI: May I ask why? UV: It's because they won't let me tan humans as easily as I used to! RI: But couldn't your rays harm human skin and cause skin cancer? UV: Well... yes but don't humans want a tanned skin? Anyway I could also kill bacteria if used properly. RI: My final question is: how long is your wavelength? UV: It is actually very short, it's 10-8 metres. RI: Well, that's all for today, thank you for being with us ultra-violet ray. UV: You're welcome. by Alif and Novella Interviewer: Welcome back guys! Today we will be interviewing Mr Gamma Ray. Gamma Ray: Hello!! I am very happy to be here. Interviewer: We would like to ask you a few questions, let’s start with the first one: is it true you are very dangerous to humans? Gamma Ray: Yes, it is true that I am very dangerous but only if used in the wrong way. I am now used to kill cancer cells and to sterilise hospital equipment. Interviewer: I heard some rumours that you can’t pass through metal, is this true? Gamma Ray: No this is not true, I am one of the only rays that CAN pass through metals. Interviewer: Is it true that you have the shortest wavelength? Gamma Ray: Yes, and I have the most powerful wave, as I have already said I can penetrate metals. Interviewer: Where exactly do you come from? Gamma Ray: I am given out by radioactive substances, for example by uranium. Interviewer: So you are very dangerous to humans? Gamma Ray: Yes but only if used in the wrong way like in an atomic bomb. Interviewer: How fast exactly do you move? I have heard many people say that you move at the speed of sound and many that say you move at the speed of light? Gamma Ray: Well I have heard this too but I can assure you that I travel at the speed of light. Interviewer: Thank you for being here today, I hope you come back soon to tell us more of your very interesting life!! Gamma Ray: Thank you it was a pleasure to be here today with all of you!! I hope to see (or wave to you) soon!! by Lehua and Elettra Interviewer: Now we’re going to interview X-Ray. Can I call you X? X-R: No I am Ray... X-Ray. Interviewer: So... what type of wavelength are you? X-R: I am a very short wavelength. Interviewer: They told me you are a very safe guy. X-R: Who told you that? I can be very dangerous, I can cause cancer! Interviewer: What can you pass through easily and what makes it difficult for you to live your everyday life? X-R: Well, I can pass through flesh and skin, but I have to stop my journey when I get to the bones! In my daily life I see lots of people, but I am ignored by all of them. All I do is talk to my ray mates, UV and Gamma. Sorry, I have to go to work, the hospital is calling! Interviewer: Ok then, see you soon, have a good day! by Marlene and Novella |
