The New School was founded in 1972 by a group of parents and teachers who wanted to create an educational environment in which high academic achievement was combined with a close teacher-student relationship. The New School remains "new" in its commitment to an ongoing process of change and renewal, as students come and go and as educational methodologies evolve.
The School is recognised by the Italian Ministry for Education and is an official examination centre for Edexcel, and the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
The School is a non-profit making organisation run by the Academic Council (all staff and seven student representatives) which also elects the headteacher, and by the Executive Council (three elected teachers and four elected parents).
