HOME   The Pied Piper of Hamelin

We had a wonderful time getting
ratty! It was great fun making our
masks and having tails.December 2005

In Hamelin town everybody was happy until horrid rats flooded the town.  They scuttled, scavenged and sang!

The townsfolk of Hamelin tried chasing the rats away, but they were absolutely everywhere... in the kitchen, the toybox, the bedroom and the bathroom!

The Year 4 funky rats causing chaos in the kitchen

We had great fun chasing away the rats from the kitchen,
the toybox, the bedroom and the bathroom.

The rat infestation was just getting worse and worse... so who did they call?
The HAMELIN RAT BUSTERS!

Lined up for inspection
- the rat catchers are ready for action!

Present arms!
The rat catchers are keen - but too slow.

The Hamelin Rat Busters did their very best to squash, chop and trap the rats, but to no avail.
The citizens despaired until one day a strange man appeared.

The Pied Piper

The mysterious stranger just happened to be passing through the town, but said he’d be able to rid the town of the rats.
After the Pied Piper asked for a fee of 100 gilders, the mayor of Hamelin promised him a whacking 1,000 gilders for his services!

The Pied Piper duly enticed the rats away with his magical pipe, but when he returned for his payment, the mayor had had second thoughts about the whole thing...

The bossy mayor made a big mistake
 not paying the Pied Piper

The Pied Piper was furious!  So he decided to make the townsfolk pay...

He worked his magic again, but this time on the children of Hamelin.
He led the children away to a secret hiding place out of town, leaving their parents distraught.

Finally, the mayor gave in and paid the Pied Piper,
leading to the return of the town’s children and great celebrations!

Year 5 enjoyed taking the main acting parts and great fun was had by all!
Many, many thanks to Allan, Catherine and all of the primary staff, children and parents for their hard work.
    Well done!
