Did you know that fruit produces an electric current?

Year 7 found out by using an orange as a battery for a clock.

We cut a very ripe orange in half, we stuck two pieces of metal that conducted electricity in it but it didn’t work.  We then put another two pieces of metal connected with a wire inside and the clock switched on (even if it had the wrong time).

We then tried with an apple to see if a different fruit gave a different amount of energy to the clock.  The clock’s display had the same brightness.
