Student Report 2004 - 2005
Speech by Kofi Awere-Gyekye, Year 13

I joined The New School three years ago - I am currently in Year 13.  When I first joined the school, I came with a stereotype of what teachers were like, but that has changed completely due to the nature of the school.  They are not only figures of authority, but individuals with whom I can interact with openly and honestly. The majority of students appreciate this environment in which we learn, which clearly reflects the ethos of the school.

We, the students also value the fact that we take part in many of the school's decision making - for example there is a student representative in the school's interviewing committee. This role was played by Leyla Vassighi last year.  There is also the student vote connected to the election of the chairperson. Additionally, there is the opportunity for us to voice our opinions due to our involvement in the Academic Council.

The past year has been a productive one that the students have been greatly been involved in.  There have been numerous events including fund-raising, particularly for the Tsunami appeal. As an international school, we understand the importance of world issues and happenings beyond the New School walls.

There were two major school productions: The King With Cold Feet from the primary school and the senior school play, Wyrd Sisters, which I took part in.

All of my experience in the New School has been a productive one that will enable me to confront the world.
