Yes, it’s that time of year again... you’re so close to the holidays, and yet so far, for there’s something in the way, something terrible, looming, speeding towards you...
EXAMS!
But fear not! Here’s a helping hand to guide you towards exam success.
Preparation Know what’s on the syllabus You can find links to every GCSE & IGCSE syllabus, or AS & A2 Level syllabus within the ‘Curriculum’ part of this site.
Develop your study skills For advice on revision techniques, essay planning, managing your time, reducing stress and more, check out www.studygs.net or www.cambridgestudents.org.uk.
Revision Past papers are available from your teacher, or direct from the examining board: www.cie.org.uk or www.edexcel.org.uk There are also many websites that can help you revise, including: www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize (for GCSEs); www.bbc.co.uk/education/asguru (for A-levels) or www.bbc.co.uk/schools/16/sosteacher (for all of the above). In addition, you may find this page of links useful: www.cobisec.org/gcse
Practicalities Know where and when your exams are Keep your statement of entry safe! You can always double-check the examinations’ timetable directly with the examination boards: CIE or Edexcel (Not sure which board? Go to the GCSE & IGCSE page or AS & A2 level page, then click on the subject.) If you’re really stuck, simply contact the school.
Know the examinations guidelines What am I allowed to take into the exam? Do I have to bring my statement of entry? What if I don’t understand the instructions? What if I feel ill? Make sure you know the answers BEFORE you go into the exam room! Advice from the Joint Council for Qualifications.
Turn up on time Make sure you arrive at school in good time for morning and afternoon sessions. If you arrive late, you may not be admitted to the examination room.
You’ve done the work, you’ve prepared well, now go ahead and do your best! GOOD LUCK!
