Nursery and Year 1 visit the
Botanical Gardens
March 2002

As part of their topic work on plants and mini-beasts,  Nursery and Year 1 spent an exciting morning exploring the Botanical Gardens in Rome.

The morning started with the giant cacti, Year 1 did some still-life drawing while the Nursery looked at the cacti and the nearby lemons and oranges.

After this we walked between the tall palm trees up to the main fountain for a snack.

The giant bamboo was of great interest as the children were able to compare the height of the bamboo and the new shoots growing with themselves.

It was then time to look in small ponds, explore the budding plants and ferns and to look for tadpoles, toads and fish.

We then moved off to view new ponds filled with enormous goldfish and thousands of tadpoles.

The trip finished with a visit to one of the green houses filled with many types of cacti, of all shapes and sizes.

We all had a great morning out!
