Aims of the course:	Develop an interest and enthusiasm for biology with the possibility for further study or career in the subject. Appreciate how society makes decisions about biology-related issues and how biology contributes to the success and the economy of society Develop a deeper appreciation of "How science works" Develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of biology and how they relate to each other.
Topics covered:	AS level Cell biochemistry. DNA and inheritance. Mutations. Social and ethical issues. Plant cell structure, products and uses. Biodiversity and taxonomy. Practical biology and research skills. A2 level Photosynthesis, global warming. Evolution and natural section. DNA profiling. Bacteria and viruses. Immunology. Respiration. Impact of exercise on the body. Homeostasis, hormones, nervous system. Human genome project. Practical biology and research skills.

	Throughout the course emphasis is placed on "How science works" and its implications for society.
